Ken was born in a little big town in South Central Utah where at the age of twelve his musical ambition blossomed when he purchased a tenor guitar with money he earned by raising pigs. This 4-string tenor guitar provided all the impetus that he needed to master the 6-string Martin guitar all on his own. With his guitar, an innate musical sense, and a quality singing voice, Ken has enjoyed a lifetime of singing and performing. His success has been fueled by his intense unwavering desire to not just entertain, but also to please his audience. Although Ken was not raised in a farming/ranching family, he did not let that get in the way of spending most of his life helping and working with close friends on their farms and ranches. Living the “cowboy way” – working with cattle, sheep, and horses (let’s not forget the pigs) – is all reflected in his singing and songwriting. Ken played with a variety of musical groups over the years, but eventually he returned to his roots performing and writing western style folk music. He formed his own “Desert Sage Band”, played with “The Red Rock Wranglers”, and currently performs with his new group “LATIGO” as well as performing solo. His musical voice and melodic guitar have been familiar sounds at countless concerts, club dates, private parties and church gatherings. He is an active member of the National Western Music Association and the Academy of Western Artists. In January and February 2005, his first Latigo CD “Ridin’ ” was ranked in the ‘Top Ten Western Music Albums’ by the Sunset Information Service. “Ridin’ ” was also nominated for ‘Western Music Album of the Year’ by the Academy of Western Artists. Further, two songs from the album, “Cattle Up the Trail” and “Clear Creek is Running Muddy Tonight”, were nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ by the Academy. “I feel like I’m finally ‘home’ with the western style music of the ‘American West’. Its honesty and goodness, along with its melodic chord changes and harmonies absolutely sends me! I feel good about performing it to young and old alike because of its’ cleanliness and integrity. I feel at ease with this music.” – Ken Stevens Whether you are watching him perform or simply listening to his music, Ken’s genuine heartfelt love and enthusiasm for entertaining delivers his musical message loud and clear – crystal clear. |
